Installing Your Synthetic Turf with Turf HQ
Welcome to the final chapter of our Turf HQ installation series! You’ve meticulously planned and prepared the base—now it’s time for the grand reveal. Installing your synthetic turf is where your vision comes to life, transforming your outdoor space into a lush, green oasis.
Synthetic Turf Installation: The moment has arrived! Begin by unrolling your turf and letting it bask in the sun for a few hours. This helps the fibers stand up and the backing to smooth out, ensuring a more natural appearance. Place the turf over the prepared base, cutting off the un-tufted edge (selvedge) on both sides. Lay the next piece adjacent, ensuring all pieces face the same direction for a cohesive look. Attention to detail is what sets a professional installation apart.
Securing Seams: Seams are the backbone of a seamless installation. Ensure a 1/8 inch gap between turf pieces for proper seam alignment. Secure seams with staples/nails or turf glue and seaming tape. This step is crucial for the longevity and appearance of your installation. Consult a Turf HQ Installation Expert for detailed guidance on achieving seamless joins. A well-executed seam is invisible to the eye and ensures your lawn looks flawless.
Trimming and Securing: Precision is key when trimming the turf around borders, flower beds, and walkways. Cut from the back side to avoid damaging the fibers. Secure the turf with 6-inch galvanized staples around the perimeter. Avoid over-hammering to prevent dimples and maintain a smooth surface. This ensures your lawn not only looks beautiful but also performs.
Infill Application: Infill is the finishing touch that adds ballast, protects the backing, and helps the grass blades rebound from activity. Apply 2 pounds per square foot using a drop spreader. Use a push broom to work the infill into the turf, helping the grass blades stand tall and look natural. This step enhances the resilience of your lawn, ensuring it remains a vibrant, inviting space.
Final Touches: The final step is all about making your new lawn shine. Clean up the area with a leaf blower, broom, or plastic rake to remove debris and ensure a pristine finish. Congratulations on completing your installation! You’ve transformed your outdoor space into a beautiful, year-round usable oasis.
